-
Recipe Views: 34
Clafoutis is a traditional French dessert originating from the Limousin region. It consists of a rich, custard-like batter poured over fresh fruit, typically black cherries, though other fruits can be used as well. This delightful dish is baked until golden and can be served warm or at room temperature, often dusted with powdered sugar.

Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh black cherries (or other fruits like plums or berries), pitted
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Direction
-
Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round baking dish or a similar-sized pie dish with butter.
-
Prepare the Fruit:
- Rinse and pit the cherries (or prepare your chosen fruit). Spread them evenly across the bottom of the greased baking dish.
-
Make the Batter:
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well combined.
- Add the milk, flour, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until smooth and there are no lumps. Finally, stir in the melted butter.
-
Combine and Pour:
- Pour the batter over the fruit in the baking dish, ensuring the fruit is evenly distributed.
-
Bake:
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the clafoutis is puffed, set in the center, and lightly golden on top. A toothpick inserted should come out clean.
-
Cool and Serve:
- Allow the clafoutis to cool slightly before serving. It can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
Serving Suggestions:
Clafoutis is delightful on its own but can also be served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Pair it with a cup of coffee or tea for a perfect finish to a meal.
