Ingredients
- 3 ripe avocados, peeled, pitted, and mashed
- 1 small red onion, finely chopped
- 1 small tomato, diced
- 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced (optional for spice)
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (optional for added flavor)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Direction
-
Prepare the Avocados:
- Start by cutting the avocados in half. Remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium-sized mixing bowl.
- Using a fork or a potato masher, mash the avocado to your desired consistency. Some people like it chunky, while others prefer it smooth—it’s up to you!
-
Chop the Veggies:
- Finely chop the red onion, tomato, and cilantro. If you’re using jalapeño, mince it finely as well. Be sure to remove the seeds from the jalapeño if you prefer a milder guacamole.
-
Mix the Ingredients:
- Add the chopped onion, tomato, cilantro, and jalapeño (if using) into the mashed avocado. Stir to combine.
- Add lime juice, cumin (if using), and season generously with salt and pepper. Taste the guacamole and adjust the seasoning to your liking.
-
Serve:
- Serve immediately with tortilla chips, as a topping for tacos, or alongside your favorite Mexican dishes.
- If you’re not serving it right away, cover the guacamole with plastic wrap, making sure the wrap touches the surface of the guacamole to prevent browning. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
