Ingredients

  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp miso paste
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, sliced
  • Ramen noodles
  • Toppings: sliced green onions, soft-boiled eggs, nori, bamboo shoots, and cooked pork or chicken

Direction

  • Prepare the Broth:

    • In a large pot, combine 4 cups of chicken broth and 2 cups of water.
    • Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of miso paste, 2 minced garlic cloves, and the sliced ginger (1-inch piece).
    • Stir the mixture to dissolve the miso paste and evenly distribute the flavors.
    • Bring the broth to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Cook the Ramen Noodles:

    • While the broth is simmering, bring a separate pot of water to a boil.
    • Once boiling, add the ramen noodles (follow the package instructions for the recommended cooking time, usually around 3-5 minutes).
    • Stir occasionally to prevent the noodles from sticking together.
    • Once cooked, drain the noodles in a colander and rinse briefly under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
  • Strain the Broth:

    • After simmering, take the pot off the heat.
    • Use a fine mesh strainer to strain the broth into a large bowl or another pot to remove the garlic and ginger slices. This will leave you with a clear, flavorful broth.
  • Prepare Toppings:

    • While the broth is simmering, prepare your toppings:
      • Soft-Boiled Eggs: Bring a small pot of water to a boil, gently add eggs, and boil for 6-7 minutes. Transfer to ice water for a few minutes, then peel and slice in half.
      • Cooked Pork or Chicken: If you have leftovers, slice them thinly. If not, you can quickly sauté or grill some meat to your liking.
      • Green Onions: Thinly slice and set aside.
      • Nori: Cut into strips for garnishing.
      • Bamboo Shoots: Prepare them according to your preference (canned ones are ready to use).
  • Assemble the Ramen:

    • In serving bowls, place a portion of the cooked ramen noodles.
    • Ladle the hot broth over the noodles.
    • Arrange your desired toppings on top: add the sliced soft-boiled eggs, cooked pork or chicken, bamboo shoots, green onions, and nori strips.
    • Optionally, drizzle a bit of sesame oil or add chili oil for extra flavor.
  • Serve and Enjoy:

    • Serve immediately while hot.
    • Encourage your guests to mix the toppings into the broth for the best flavor experience.
